Who we are
Anderson North LLC was founded by Ashley Anderson, a builder and creative visionary who believes true strength begins when people build something of their own. What started as a simple idea—designing practical, resilient cabins for self-reliant living—has grown into a mission to give people the tools and confidence to create their own space, no matter where they are in life.
Ashley was born in Georgia and raised between Massachusetts and Georgia, growing up around people who worked with their hands, led with faith, and created opportunity from limited resources. That upbringing shaped the values behind Anderson North—a company built not just from wood and steel, but from purpose, responsibility, and integrity.
Ashley earned her associate degree in Electronic Media from Holyoke Community College, where she designed stage sets for college productions and learned how creativity and structure come together through hands-on building. She later earned her bachelor’s degree in English Communication from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, refining her ability to connect ideas, people, and craftsmanship through clear and intentional work.
Prior to moving to Maine in 2022, Ashley had already purchased property and was preparing to begin renovation and construction work on it. At the time, she was working in crisis services while also pursuing her college education full time. Her goal was to improve the property while continuing her work supporting others and completing her studies.
During the early stages of that process, she hired a contractor to begin work on the property. The contractor accepted payment but ultimately never performed the job and disappeared without completing the work.
Instead of allowing that experience to stop the project, Ashley chose a different path. She began teaching herself how to frame structures and understand the building process so she could take control of her own project rather than remain dependent on unreliable contractors. What started as a personal effort to move forward eventually became the early foundation of Anderson North.
At the same time, Ashley was working statewide in Maine as a crisis worker, supporting people during some of the most unstable and difficult moments of their lives. Through that work, she encountered many individuals who had been financially exploited in similar ways—often by contractors, landlords, or people who promised help and then disappeared.
She began noticing a troubling pattern. Marginalized groups—including disabled individuals, low-income families, veterans, and people already experiencing instability—were often the most likely to become victims of these situations. Many people who live alone or are economically vulnerable are especially at risk of being taken advantage of by inexperienced or dishonest handymen and contractors who collect money but fail to complete the work.
For people already struggling financially, these situations can be devastating. Losing money to a bad contractor can mean delayed repairs, unsafe living conditions, or losing the opportunity to secure stable housing altogether.
These experiences reinforced a deeper purpose behind the idea she had already begun exploring: designing cabin kits that give people more control over their shelter. Ashley often reflects on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, a framework that identifies shelter and safety as fundamental human requirements. Without a stable place to live, it becomes extremely difficult for individuals or families to focus on education, work, health, or rebuilding their lives.
That understanding helped shape the philosophy behind Anderson North. By simplifying the structural building process, the company aims to provide practical solutions that allow people to build something real without being fully dependent on expensive contractors or complicated construction systems.
The name Anderson North carries the legacy of Ashley’s great-grandfather, William Anderson, a businessman in early-1900s rural Georgia. Through discipline and perseverance, he saved until he could buy his own buggy—a symbol of ownership, freedom, and forward motion. His story is a reminder that progress is earned, not given, and that legacy is built through work, patience, and intention. That same spirit lives on in every cabin Anderson North creates.
Today, Anderson North offers a growing line of cabin models—including the SHELTRIX A-Frame, the SLANT Mono-Slope Cabin, the SOLID Box Cabin, the SYNTRY Porch Cabin, and the STACK log-style cabin model designed to bring a more traditional, grounded structure with lofted space into the lineup. Each model is built around the same philosophy: efficiency, resilience, and the belief that ownership and self-determination are the foundation of freedom.
Anderson North is more than a cabin company. It is a belief that building something with your own hands can restore confidence, stability, and direction.
Guided by a simple promise:
“This is yours—and you built it.”
Anderson North stands for creation, strength, and the power to build your own North.
